Saturday, December 7th, during Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas (Indian Language Day), the Indian (children's) book collection will be officially launched. This collection comprises over one hundred books in several Indian languages. The initiator and driving force behind this collection is Vishwanath NG. He is the founder and chairman of the Indian Center in the Netherlands (ICIN) and together with Chaitali Sengupta he is affiliated with At Home in Languages (Van Alle Talen Thuis) as native language experts.

Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem of Eindhoven, Albert Kivits, director and board member of Eindhoven Library, Tara Pathak, advisor to the Indian Embassy, and council member Miriam Frosi (CDA) will be present that afternoon. Vishwanath's collection has been supplemented with books purchased with support from the At Home in All Languages programme, which is funded by ASML. The Indian community is one of the largest and fastest growing in this region. For Vishwanath, it's a crowning achievement: "Compiling this multilingual book collection was an incredibly valuable experience. It's about much more than just books—it's about keeping our languages, stories, and cultural identity alive for the next generation."

Important addition

The addition of this collection is incredibly important for the Eindhoven Library. "We are thrilled with Vishwanath's efforts to compile this extensive collection and proud that it now has a place in our library," emphasizes Albert Kivits. "It contributes to the task we fulfil as a library, driving development, close by and for everyone. Together with ASML we are building a future where every talent counts and where everyone feels at home."

At Home in Languages

At Home in Languages is an initiative of the eight libraries in the Brainport region. With native language experts, it offers children aged 0 to 12, in childcare centers and schools, the opportunity to (learn to) read books in their native language. This contributes to their general language development, strengthens their Dutch, and fosters understanding between cultures. At Home in Languages works together with the Heritage Language Education Network (HLEN) in the assembly of book collections in different languages.
